Abraham Geiger
1810- 1874
Early founder of Reform Judaism during the Enlightenment period.
Geiger and the other early founders of Reform Judaism believed that in order to stop assimilation in Germany, Judaism must be modernized to fit in with secular society. Therefore, many mitzvot and traditions were cut out of the Reform movement, and new customs were adopted.
