Theodor Herzl was born in Budapest Hungary. He was a journalist, playwright and political activist. He is often credited as the forefather of Modern Zionism. Herzl came to the realisation, following the Dreyfus Affair that a state must be established for the Jewish people by political means as a safe haven to protect Jews against rising anti-semitism.
