Ukrainian Born, Ben-Zvi founded the HeHalutz movement alongside Ben Gurion which prepared young Jews to emigrate and settle in Palestine. He was an active member in the Haganah in the 1920s. Being elected as a Labour representative in the first and second Knesset, Ben Zvi was elected as Weizmans presidential successor in 1952
