Recently, our group split into two programs, each offering unique and meaningful experiences.
One group joined the Marva program, a military experience run by the IDF. They got a taste of what life is like for Israelis their age, learning independence, responsibility, and resilience. They lived in tents, ate field rations, and woke up at 2 AM for hikes. One of our participants, Eli Mandelson from the U.S.((who was awarded Outstanding Cadet of the Marva course!!!), shared her thoughts:
“Marva was genuinely a life-changing experience. We got to experience what the IDF looks and feels like – from living in tents and eating out of cans to waking up at 2 AM for a ‘Masa’ (a journey, usually a hike). Hearing stories from soldiers all over the IDF changed my perspective on the army and life. I will carry the lessons and values I learned with me forever. Thank you to Marva and Bnei Akiva for this amazing opportunity.”
The second group joined Magen David Adom (MDA). After a week-long training course in Jerusalem, they moved to apartments in Tel Aviv and began volunteering on ambulances. They gained medical skills, independence, and a deep sense of kindness and responsibility. Their work in real-life emergencies was both challenging and rewarding.
Looking ahead, we just arrived at Kibbutz Ketura, near Eilat, where we’re enjoying the desert atmosphere, hiking, and doing fun activities. Next, we’ll return to Migdal Oz for “Guf-Nefesh” week, which includes physical training, mindfulness practices like Vipassana, deep discussions on jewish house and more.
Later this month, we’ll travel to Poland, followed by moving to the Jewish Quarter in Jerusalem, where we’ll stay until our shared Pesach experience.
Thank you for your support!
All the best Ariel
